IRON NEST Counter-Battery Guide
Locate hostile artillery from spotter bearings, recognize poor geometry and troubleshoot reports that cannot produce a valid solution.
Counter-battery work reverses the usual loop: instead of receiving a direct target coordinate, you reconstruct the hostile gun position from observations.
Plot from the correct origin
Confirm whether the report uses a map grid, a bearing from a named spotter or a distance from a reference point. A map-grid reference identifies an area or position, whereas a bearing specifies a direction from a known origin.
Triangulate the battery
Plot each bearing from its own spotter. The intersection is the estimated hostile position. When the two lines are nearly parallel, a small observation error produces a much larger positional error.
Dynamic data is expected
Some full-release players report receiving different spotter and enemy-battery data when replaying the mission. Use the values from the current run; a forum coordinate is an example, not an answer key.
When no valid solution exists
Recheck the report format and origin first. If the message contains placeholder text or code instead of a usable value, community reports indicate a possible mission-data issue. Preserve the evidence and consider restarting or retrying the mission rather than inventing a coordinate.
